High blood pressure has no symptoms, so the only way to know is to have it measured.
You cannot feel high blood pressure. There is no ache that warns you and nothing to watch for. It is either measured or it is unknown, and measuring takes minutes.
We are the same shop in Freeport Shopmall, independently owned since July 2026. Some of this is NHS funded and free to you. There is also a fuller check-up you can pay for, one of our private health services, meant to catch serious things early.

Who the NHS covers is set nationally, not by us. Give us your age and a couple of details and you will know straight away.
The check itself
In the consultation room with the door shut. A blood pressure reading takes minutes. The fuller check-up takes longer.
You leave knowing your numbers
You get the reading, what it means in plain words, and whether anything wants following up with your GP.

Being straight with you.
Free does not mean everybody. The blood pressure check is free from 40 up, unless you already have a diagnosis or have had it measured in the last six months. The NHS Health Check runs from 40 to 74. Under 40 it depends, so ring and tell us your age.
Booking may be needed for the NHS checks. The one you pay for has to be booked, and it has age limits of its own.
We are open Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00, and Saturday, 10:00 to 17:00. Sundays and bank holidays we are closed.

Questions people ask.
Who can have a free blood pressure check?
Adults aged 40 and over, so long as you have not already been diagnosed with high blood pressure and have not had it measured in the last six months. Ages 35 to 39 can qualify where there is a family history.
What is an NHS Health Check?
A broader look at your risk of heart and circulatory problems, free to adults in England aged 40 to 74 who have not been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. Booking may be needed, so ring first.
Does any of it cost anything?
Both NHS checks are free if you are in the group the NHS covers. There is also a fuller check-up you pay for, meant to spot serious conditions early. Ask what that one costs when you ring, before you book.
Do you do free COVID-19 tests?
Free rapid lateral flow tests are for people eligible for COVID-19 treatment because they are at higher risk. That is decided nationally, not by us, so ring and ask whether it applies to you. For those it covers there is no booking.
What happens if my reading is high?
You get told, plainly, and you are not sent home to worry on your own. One high reading is not a diagnosis, so we may ask you back another day, or ask you to see your GP.
Where our patients come from.
You will find us on Pit Lane in Talke Pits, inside Freeport Shopmall. People walk in from Talke Pits and Talke, and we are a short drive from Kidsgrove, Butt Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the rest of Stoke-on-Trent.
You do not have to be registered at a surgery nearby to ask.
