Travel health advice and planning
Travel Clinic in Talke Pits.
Tell us where you are going and when, and we will tell you what you need and what we can do here.
Travel health is mostly about time. Some vaccination courses are one appointment, others run over several weeks, and a few need finishing a fortnight before you fly. So start with a phone call, not a walk in on the day.
We are the same shop in Freeport Shopmall on Pit Lane, independently owned since July 2026. Ring 01782 508214 with the countries and the dates. Some of what you need overlaps with our everyday vaccines service, some has to be ordered in, and some is better done elsewhere. We will tell you which is which.
What actually happens.
Ring as soon as the trip is booked
You do not need to know what you need. Ring 01782 508214 with your destination and dates, even months ahead.
Have a few things to hand
Countries, travel dates, roughly what you have had before, and anything about your health we should know.
We go through the trip with you
A pharmacist goes through it country by country, then says what is recommended and what we can arrange here.
We plan any follow up
If a course needs more than one appointment, we work the dates back from your departure.
Who this suits.
Anyone with a trip booked, or still deciding where to go.
- First trips outside western Europe.
- Families taking children somewhere new.
- People visiting family abroad, who often skip travel advice.
- Longer trips, backpacking, and anywhere rural.
- Anyone who cannot remember what they have already had.
- Anyone sorting a trip and their routine vaccinations in one go.
What we can do here, and what we cannot.
Travel vaccination is not one service, it is dozens, and no community pharmacy keeps all of it on the shelf. Some things are ordered in for the person who needs them, and some are better done elsewhere. Nothing here says a particular vaccine is waiting for you.
Yellow fever is the clearest example. It can only be given at a centre officially designated for it, and nothing here should be read as a claim that we are one. So ring early, while there is still room to order something in or send you elsewhere.
Ring 01782 508214 and ask. We would rather tell you now than waste your trip.
Questions people ask.
How far ahead should I ring?
As soon as the trip is booked, and ideally six to eight weeks before you fly. Some courses run over several weeks, and some need finishing a fortnight before you travel.
What should I have ready when I ring?
The countries you are visiting, your dates, and whether you are staying in cities or somewhere rural. It helps to know roughly what you have had before. Rough answers are fine.
Do I need an appointment?
Ring {phone} first rather than turning up. Travel advice needs a proper conversation, and we may have to check the current guidance for where you are going.
What if the course needs more than one dose?
We plan it round your departure date from the start. Some courses are two or three appointments spread over weeks, so the earlier you ring the more likely it all fits.
Can you advise about malaria tablets?
Yes. Malaria risk depends on the country, the region within it and the season, so the advice is worth having on its own. Whether we can help beyond advice is a separate question, so ring and ask.
I fly in a few days. Is it too late?
Ring anyway. Even close to departure there is usually something useful, whether advice on food, water and bites or a first dose. Sometimes it is genuinely too late, and we will say so.
Where our patients come from.
We are on Pit Lane in Talke Pits, inside Freeport Shopmall. Most people asking about a trip walk in from Talke Pits and Talke, and we are a short drive from Kidsgrove, Butt Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the rest of Stoke-on-Trent.
Travel health is not tied to where your surgery is, so ask us wherever you are registered.
Got a trip booked?
One phone call tells you where you stand. Give us the countries and the dates.
