NHS and private stop smoking support
Stop Smoking Support in Talke Pits.
Free NHS support to stop smoking: a first chat in private, nicotine replacement if it suits you, and someone to come back to.
Most people who stop smoking have stopped before. A week, six months, a year, and then something happened and they were back on them. That is not a character flaw. It is how stopping usually goes.
We are the same shop in Freeport Shopmall, independently owned since July 2026. The NHS support is free, given by trained staff here in the consultation room, door shut. The same support can be paid for instead, as one of our private health services. Ring 01782 508214 and we will tell you which applies.
What actually happens.
You say you want to stop
Ring 01782 508214 or say it at the counter. You do not need a date picked yet. Saying it out loud is the hard part.
A first chat, in private
We ask what you smoke, when the first one of the day is, and what you have tried before. Nobody tells you off.
What might help you
Nicotine replacement is one route. The pharmacist goes through what would suit you, and what got in the way last time.
Somebody expects you next week
You agree when to come back in. Somebody expecting you is the part that is hard to do on your own.
Who this suits.
Anyone thinking about it, including anyone who has thought about it before.
- Anyone who has tried more than once and is fed up with starting again.
- People who have cut right down and cannot get past the last few.
- Anyone told to stop before an operation or a hospital appointment.
- People who would rather see the same face each week than ring a helpline.
- Anyone who wants their blood pressure taken while they are here, one of our health checks.
What support can and cannot do.
Nobody can promise you will stop, and a promise like that would be worth nothing. Support makes it more likely, and a good deal less lonely. If you go back on them, come back anyway. Most people get there on a later attempt.
Age restrictions may apply, and that is set nationally rather than by us. Booking may be needed too, so ring first and we will find you a time. If it is the paid support, ask what it costs when you ring.
We are open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. Sundays and bank holidays we are closed.
Ring 01782 508214 and ask. We would rather tell you now than waste your trip.
Questions people ask.
Does it cost anything?
The NHS stop smoking service is free: free advice and free support from trained staff here. The same support can also be paid for privately. Ring {phone} and we will tell you which applies.
I have tried before and gone back on them. Is there any point?
Most people who stop have had a few goes at it first, so a previous attempt is not a mark against you. It is information, and we use what got in the way last time.
Do I need an appointment?
Booking may be needed, so ring {phone} first rather than turning up and being turned round. There is a private room for it, so you are not doing this stood at the counter.
Is there an age limit?
Age restrictions may apply to the NHS service, and that is set nationally, not by us. Ring and tell us the age of the person asking and we will say where they stand.
What if I start smoking again halfway through?
Then you tell us and you carry on coming. Going back on them partway through is normal and it does not end the support. The only thing that ends it is not coming back.
Where our patients come from.
You will find us on Pit Lane in Talke Pits, inside Freeport Shopmall. Most people walk in from Talke Pits and Talke, and we are a short drive from Kidsgrove, Butt Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the rest of Stoke-on-Trent.
You do not have to be registered nearby, and nobody needs to refer you.
Thinking about stopping?
One phone call starts it. You do not need a date, a plan, or to have got it right last time.
Ring us to ask about stopping, or to book a first chat.
